TAPING EQUIPTMENT:

These shows were recorded with a toshiba portable cassette recorder with an external stereo clip on (t bar looking mic) that was covered with stocking material.  Experimented at band rehersals to find mic was best used like this to capture sound.  Difference was a warmer, not as harsh sound.  I'm a fan of bass in audience recordings, and the stockings helped with bottom end.  Maybe not for everyone.  I strongly suggest tapers experiment with their equiptment. The mics were richer in the mid frequencies without the stockings on, so i had to find a way of getting more of a balance of high, mids and lows...Again, stockings wrapped around mic (roughly 8 to 10 mm thickness around mics).  Cannot remember the model and make of mic used in recordings. Have lost or misplaced equiptment over the years.

SOUND:

Its a good sound with bottom end, again some clip due to mics but with atmosphere, this show sounds best through good headphones and personal equalising i feel, its a loud rec so start off low @ adjust.

On this night,my friends came along, they wanted to see what u2 are like, they carried on loudly, were half pissed and hatched a plan to do a run for the front rows when houselights go down,we went through with it only to be caght (only 2 out of seven).i was one of them and we were taken to the rear of the arena and manhandled quite roughly by house event staff threatning us to be kicked out and pushing us,, all this was going on infront of the f.o.h. desk and caught the attention of a u2 roadcrew who came to our defence, he stopped house security and we told him what had happend, copped a lecture from him also, then magic intervenes and he escorted us to 2nd row right infront of adam, did not see it coming,i thought i was out, all of the events unfold at the start of the rec capturing entire episode. as a resault of all of this, ruined hawkmoon @ 3/4 of desire , rec with mics covered, was very lucky they did not detect rec equiptment, left it running whole time, mics uncovered at end of desire, track 3 onwards all ok, was very lucky to get this rec happening. u2have the best roadcrew on the planet ...
