NOTE: This DVD features the same video as the "Vertigo: Second Night in San Diego" DVD, but the audio on this disc is not from the video camera but rather is dubbed from Edgar's bootleg "Vertigo San Diego - Night Two". Here are my comments regarding each of those bootlegs:
Vertigo: Second Night
in San Diego (DVD)
This
DVD includes footage from three cameras positioned in the audience.
Taper 1 was located fairly high in the stands about 20 degrees left (The
Edge's side). Taper 2 was located low in the stands on the right
side (Adam's side) of the arena at an approximately 30 degree angle from
the stage. Taper 3 was located high in the stands on the left side
(The Edge's side) about even with the stage.
The video begins with a shot of the marquee outside of the iPayOne center the night of the concert. Concert footage begins during the intro to "City of Blinding Lights". There are some audio problems during the first song -- a change in clarity from around 0:45 to 1:00 and a dropout during a change in camera angles from 2:12 to 2:16. From this point until the middle of "Vertigo" the footage is exclusively from Taper 2. Beginning with "The Electric Co." the changes between camera angles are much more frequent. On a few occasions the screen is split to show multiple camera angle simultaneously. The cameras remain very still and obstructions are only an issue on the footage filmed by Taper 2. The audio is very solid, however the acoustics in the venue leave something to be desired.
Bono provides a chuckle during "New Years Day" as he appears to reach into the ellipse to shake hands with fans in the front row but is actually giving the crowd the middle finger (33:42)
Vertigo San Diego
- Night Two (audio)
Fantastic
audience recording with excellent sound quality and clarity. This
recording packs plenty of punch too. Audience noise is not an issue.
The
band continue to dust off songs from way back in their catalog, this time
playing "Gloria" after "The Electric Co.". Also making it's Vertigo
Tour debut on this night is "With or Without You".
