NOTE: The menu for this DVD is in German,
so expect to have difficulty navigating the disc if you are not fluent
in the language. My source information was taken from the menu, go
it is only as reliable as my ability to translate German using free internet
sites...in other words, it's not very reliable. Below is a screen
capture of the credits pages...feel free to e-mail me a smooth English
translation if you know what you're doing.
This DVD contains footage shot by two tapers, one located high in the stands on the left side (The Edge's side) of the stadium at an approximately 15 degree angle from the stage [Taper 1], the other standing just inside the b-stage on the right side (Adam's side) [Taper 2]. Note that the DVD is in widescreen format.
The footage shot by Taper 1 is almost exclusively wide angle. He zooms in a bit from time to time, but given his distance from the stage, even these shots are far from closeups. The majority of footage shot by Taper 1 throughout the first eight tracks is at a very wide angle...so wide that it is difficult to make out the individual band members on stage and all four video screens above the stage are visible. Beginning with "Miracle Drug", Taper 1 seems to realize that zooming in much tighter is a good idea. From here on out, the footage is a mix of wide-angle shots and relative closeups (1-2 band members); however, the wide angle shot is still used more often than not.
Our first glimpse of footage shot by Taper 2 comes immediately after the "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" snippet in "The Electric Co." A small picture-in-picture box appears in the upper right corner of the screen showing the footage from the second camera for about five seconds. This is a sign of things to come. Footage from the second taper always appears in a box in the same location and typically lasts for only a few seconds. The clips cut in and out at such odd times, that one has to wonder whether Taper 2 was ducking security so much that he only managed to tape a few random segments of the concert.
During "City of Blinding Lights" and "Love and Peace or Else", footage from a third taper [Taper 3] appears in another picture-in-picture box on the bottom left. It is placed on the screen immediately beneath another picture-in-picture box showing footage from Taper 2. Taper 3 is obviously using a digicam, as is evidenced by the jerky quality of his footage (i.e. low frame rate on videos shot by digicams). This video lasts for only a few seconds as well. On a few occasions, footage from Taper 3 appears in a large box that comprises 3/4 of the screen while the footage from Taper one is relegated to only the left 1/4 of the screen. On these occasions, there is no footage from Taper 2.
The audio quality varies considerably, with the volume level fluctuating throughout the recording. I noticed that the volume drops appreciably when the picture-in-picture screens appear. Even when it is strongest, the audio is a bit distant and somewhat thin.
