NOTE (by 4candles, distributed via torrent): As I am sure everybody in the world knows, U2 and Paul McCartney opened the Live 8 concert in London with a performance of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.  This was immediately released for sale via iTunes, and is therefore NOT included on this DVD.  Apart from that, this is the full uncut U2 performance.

BBC presenter Jo Whiley interviewed all four members of the band live on BBC TV about 50 minutes before the band went on stage.  This is included as the first chapter on the DVD.

This recording consists of the original MPEG data as broadcast by the BBC.  Neither the video or the audio have been recompressed - the broadcast bitstream was simply "saved" to hard disk using a PC DVB card, cut and then used to author the DVD.

The recording is confirmed to be 100% error-free - i.e. no dropped frames.

HARDWARE/SOFTWARE USED:

Hauppauge "Nova-S" PCI DVB Card
Linux DVB drivers/dvbstream to capture original DVB transport stream
Project X to cut and demux the original transport stream
mplex (from mjpegtools) to remultiplex elementary streams
The Gimp and Perl/Image::Magick to author the menus
"dvdauthor" to create DVD VIDEO_TS structure.

NOTE: An absolutely awesome recording of U2's Live8 performance in London.  Simply spectacular.
