NOTE: The first five songs of this DVD feature a mix of pro-shot footage from MTV and audience-shot footage. After "Even Better Than the Real Thing", the footage is exclusively audience-shot.
The pro-shot footage was shot by numerous cameras, while the audience-shot footage was shot by a single camera in the stands on the right side (Adam's side) of the stadium at an approximately ten degree angle from the stage. I believe that the taper of the audience-shot footage used a tripod. The audience-shot footage contains a nice mix of wide-angle shots and relative closeups. True closeups were not possible, as the taper's seat was too far from the stage. The booms for the various cameras used to provide the footage for the video wall behind the stage occasionally present very minor obstructions in the audience-shot footage.
The source of the pro-shot footage appears to have been a fairly high generation VHS tape, as the video lacks the clarity, crispness, and definition that you would expect to find on a low generation tape. The quality of the audience-shot footage is excellent, with a pretty sharp overall picture. The lighting occasionally results in a bit of washout, but overall this footage is excellent given the taper's location. The DVD features audio dubbed from the "Good Night! Fuck Off!" bootleg.
The DVD was produced by someone who knows what he is doing. The Rambis Production intro before "Mofo" begins is very nice, and there are professional looking overlays with the song title at the beginning of each song. The DVD returns to the Part 1 menu after the "main set" and to the Part 2 menu after the "encore".
The bonus footage is from an MTV special. It includes interviews and clips from the first five songs of the 18 July 1997 concert. These clips are the same as the pro-shot footage that was mixed into the concert portion of the DVD. Note the exceptionally low bitrate (1.450 Mbps) of the bonus footage. Obviously, it's not the best quality.
Also of note, the resolution of this DVD
is peculiar (352 x 576), and considerably less than most DVDs. The
typical resolution for a PAL DVD is 720 x 576.
