NOTE:
Belfast '81:
Pretty incredible footage of a few songs from one of U2's earliest televised
performances. Multiple camera angles are edited together, with views
from in front of the stage, the back of the stage, and the sides of the
stage. About the only blemish on the video are extremely brief lines
that appear on screen every once in a while -- they are reminiscent of
the lines that appear on motion picture reels. The soundboard audio
is near flawless. Titles are displayed at the bottom of the screen
at the beginning of each song. Track divisions occur in the middle
of songs, so I have not bothered to list them above.
Try not to laugh too hard as you watch Bono prance around the stage wearing something just short of a Seinfeldesque puffy shirt, sporting a headband, and displaying a very noticeable gap between his front teeth.
Dortmund '84: Footage from German TV broadcast. This DVD features a higher quality recording than my other DVD of this concert (U2 Rockpalast 81/Poprock 84). Check out the screen captures for comparison. The VHS tape used to create the Dortmund portion of this DVD appears to be a mid-generation cassette (3rd or 4th maybe?), whereas the VHS tape used to create "U2 Rockpalast 81/Poprock 84" was likely a higher generation. The audio on this recording is very nice. Track divisions occur in the middle of songs, so I have not bothered to list them above.
Rest of DVD: The
rest of the DVD features pro-shot (broadcast) footage of various bands
performing on the two major U.S. late night comedy shows, The Late Show
With David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The footage
appears to be from mid-generation VHS tapes. Picture quality is decent
(Garfunkel) to good, while audio quality is good to very good. The
last 35 minutes of the DVD are nothing but snow/static. To be honest,
I have no idea why the person who put this DVD together included all of
this junk at the end of the U2 footage.
