NOTE (by U2_Neat, distributed with .flac files): This is the first time ever, this bootleg is released. We have been searching for this from the minute the show ended, 9 years ago! In 2005, we found out it actually exists, via the U2 Fan Club Hellas, that allowed Greek U2 fans to come in touch! It was sent to me from JIMAKOS, the man who had it on tape, a straight copy off the minidisc. Me, and my friend, Elias Koutelas, sound tech, edited and mixed it, and the results are great!
NOTE: When this recording was posted on U2Torrents in February of 2006, the entire U2 trading community was in disbelief. This concert had gained legenday status as one of only a handful of shows in the past twenty years for which no recording had surfaced. In this day and age -- with the entire world connected in real time via the internet -- the thought that a recording existed but hadn't been referenced anywhere in the trading community seemed impossible. But sure enough, that was the case. The story of this recording's appearance is a reminder to all U2 collectors -- especially the new generation of traders who have acquired a sense of entitlement and a need for instant gratification as a result of the immediate sharing that is facilitated by the torrent sites -- that patience is, indeed, a virtue.
Given the rarity of this recording and the fact that it had been transferred to an analog source before being converted to CDR, I figured that the sound quality would be near the bottom of recordings from the PopMart Tour. Therefore, I was pleseantly surprised to learn that this recording actually features a pretty strong overall sound. The clarity is a bit below that of the best recordings from the tour and, to me, the mix seems to favor the low end a bit, making Bono's vocals slightly less prominant. Nonetheless, this is a very solid recording...especially considering its provenance.
