This performance is unbelievable. U2 is
at their peak for live playing and singing,
and they are on fire. U2 rocks! Plus,
the soundboard sound quality is
phenomenal. U2 had toured for almost three
years, so they reached a level of
live perfection that I personally do not
think they ever reached since.
Larry's drums are absolutely sizzling
on this recording, and the Edge is hot.
But the star here is Bono's voice. It sounds
deep, rich and powerful. I dare
say it approaches that of “gulp“ the young
Elvis. Bono's raspy, deep,
dirty voice on Desire is awesome. His
vocal range and tone are amazing on
Lover Rescue me and "40." Bono tells the
audience at the start of I Still
Haven't Found What I'm Looking For that
the band just came back from
Australia and Japan, and his throat is
infected. "They have some pretty
psychedelic germs in Australia. They're
having their annual general meeting
in my throat right now. But if my voice
is not strong, yours is stronger." The
audience takes his cue and carries the
song. Wonderful!
This recording also receives my vote for
best recording ever of Where The
Streets Have No Name. It sizzles!
This is a "must have" recording for any
collector. At the Eleventh Hour, from
December 29, is also highly recommended.
